AFO
RANKINGS & BELTS
A structured journey of development, discipline and mastery within Udo Ogu.
THE JOURNEY
The Udo Ogu ranking system represents a structured journey through training, examination and personal development.
The four elemental stages provide a framework through which practitioners progress as their knowledge, skill, discipline and responsibility develop.
FOUR ELEMENTS
AFO
EKE
ORIE
NKWO
Afo represents the foundation of the Udo Ogu practitioner. The practitioner learns how to build and control the physical body while developing discipline, stability and basic martial knowledge.
“Without a foundation, there can be no warrior.”
Eke represents the fire that transforms the practitioner. At this stage, basic knowledge develops into practical martial skill. The practitioner begins to refine technique, movement, strategy and control.
“The warrior is forged through discipline.”
Orie represents water. Water adapts, flows and finds a way around obstacles. At this stage, the practitioner develops greater control, awareness and precision.
“Flow with control. Strike with purpose.”
Nkwo represents air. Air is not restricted to one direction. At advanced levels, the practitioner develops freedom of movement, speed, adaptability and the ability to respond instinctively while maintaining control.
“When movement becomes freedom, the warrior becomes adaptable.”
The Four Elemental Path is not simply a sequence of separate levels. Each element represents an essential quality in the development of a complete Udo Ogu practitioner.

Udo Ogu belts visually represent the practitioner's development through the Four Elemental Path. They are connected to the official Udo Ogu ranking structure and reflect progression in knowledge, skill, discipline and mastery.
A belt represents a stage in the practitioner's journey. Rank advancement is earned through demonstrated development and must reflect the official Udo Ogu rank and certificate identity.
The official beginner belt uses an approved light earth-brown / earth tone associated with Afo — Earth.
It represents the beginning of the practitioner's journey and the development of foundation, discipline, stability and basic martial knowledge.
Belt colours should remain recognisably Udo Ogu and should not imitate standard Japanese, Korean or Chinese belt-ranking systems. The Udo Ogu identity, including the approved lion emblem where applicable, remains central to the belt design.
Progression in Udo Ogu is based on demonstrated development rather than time alone. Each practitioner must show the knowledge, ability and character expected at their stage of development.
